So on Saturday night (7 Jan) a few other international students invited me to go out with them. We went to this place called The Cavern. We went down so many flights of stairs we were literally underground. Being me, I don't know very much about bars or clubs so I basically just followed the others. This girl named Kitty, who is from China, is on a two year stay and has been in Liverpool a lot longer than the rest of us. So, of course, we let (made) her take the lead. The Cavern is apparently a famous, must-see place if you visit Liverpool. Who knew? Anyway a lot of famous people have played there- like The Beatles, The Who, and Adele. And what do I do? I convince two of my new friends, Felise and Jessica, to get on the stage and sing with me. The house band was inviting people to come sing or play an instrument with them, so that's what I did. It was obviously a classic rock kind of place, so after much discussion, which involved yelling to be heard over the music, I reluctantly agreed that we could sing a Beatles song I didn't know very well. But that's okay, because after introducing us, the band told us that they weren't gonna let us sing that song and that we had to sing something else. They asked about a song that I didn't know AT ALL. Never heard of it. But Felise and Jessica knew it. And you know what THEY did? They stood off on the side microphone and stuck me on the middle one. Awesome. I basically stood center-stage trying desperately to act like not only did I know this song, but I loved it and could sing it like a pro. I kept glancing between the music in front of the guitar player and my fellow singers trying to figure out where we were and keep up. It was horrifying, but
you couldn't tell from the big smile I had on my face. I'll admit; it was fun, but next time, we're singing Don't Stop Believing by Journey.
