Non-relevant Title
I completely forgot about my vow to post once a day and almost botched it up before it even got started! Well my sleeping habits are getting worse, and I ended up sleeping my entire day away. Which is okay I guess because I really didn't have anything to do anyway. What I did do (while I was awake yesterday night) was sketch. A LOT. Filled several pages in my sketchbook. So for you today I have a sketch I did! Yay!
I wanted to practice drawing different expressions so I drew myself(?) debating over whether or not to buy a Wacom drawing tablet. As you can see, I decided to go for it. It gets here tomorrow!!!!! I'm soooo excited!

Copy Cat
So I've decided to try and do what my friend Matt does on his blog- post every day. Every. Single. Day. Which will be insanely difficult for me, but hey, let's try anyway. Also, I know that I said that this blog was going to be about England, but I've changed my mind. It's going to be about me and my adventures in general. I've got nothing else to say, so have a picture of my new favorite snack:

A Discovery
Alright, so two days ago I discovered that I have another whole email account and that this is the email account that every Hope Uni affiliate has been sending me messages on. Grand. So I open and access this to 50+ messages from various people. First things first (but not necessarily in that order) I find the messages from my teachers. [There aren't very many professors here; its really difficult to achieve a professorship and they are HUGELY respected. You don't just go calling non-professors professors]. Anyway, apparently I need a book for my lit class and I supposed to have several things read........WHAT?!
So I email the teacher and this morning I find out that I can get the book in the library. For my class that's at two. Great. So I'll be reading during lunch. Which is now....
Cheers!

An Underground Club
So on Saturday night (7 Jan) a few other international students invited me to go out with them. We went to this place called The Cavern. We went down so many flights of stairs we were literally underground. Being me, I don't know very much about bars or clubs so I basically just followed the others. This girl named Kitty, who is from China, is on a two year stay and has been in Liverpool a lot longer than the rest of us. So, of course, we let (made) her take the lead. The Cavern is apparently a famous, must-see place if you visit Liverpool. Who knew? Anyway a lot of famous people have played there- like The Beatles, The Who, and Adele. And what do I do? I convince two of my new friends, Felise and Jessica, to get on the stage and sing with me. The house band was inviting people to come sing or play an instrument with them, so that's what I did. It was obviously a classic rock kind of place, so after much discussion, which involved yelling to be heard over the music, I reluctantly agreed that we could sing a Beatles song I didn't know very well. But that's okay, because after introducing us, the band told us that they weren't gonna let us sing that song and that we had to sing something else. They asked about a song that I didn't know AT ALL. Never heard of it. But Felise and Jessica knew it. And you know what THEY did? They stood off on the side microphone and stuck me on the middle one. Awesome. I basically stood center-stage trying desperately to act like not only did I know this song, but I loved it and could sing it like a pro. I kept glancing between the music in front of the guitar player and my fellow singers trying to figure out where we were and keep up. It was horrifying, but
you couldn't tell from the big smile I had on my face. I'll admit; it was fun, but next time, we're singing Don't Stop Believing by Journey.

The first week
Hi all! We have an awful lot of catching up to do, don't we? I've decided that I'm going to go ahead and do different posts about the different things that have been going on this week, rather than trying to fit it all in to one post. So get ready, because after this post I'm taking you on a journey.
Cheers,
Nikki

Getting to Liverpool
So getting to Liverpool wasn't really difficult at all. Just LONG. I didn't sleep for something near 27 hours. I was exhausted by the time I finally made it to Hope University (which I'll be calling Uni from now on).
I'm really glad Dr. R recommended that I packed toiletries and a change of clothes because my luggage didn't make it to Liverpool as quickly as I did. I arrived on Thursday and had two outfits and a pair of pajamas until Sunday afternoon. I'm so so glad that I had those and a toothbrush.
I found out that I wasn't going to be in St Etheldreda dorm like I thought, but instead in a dorm called Austin Hall. Not a big deal. Or even a small one. The only thing that disappointed me at all is that my room lacks a window seat. I was looking forward to having a window seat. Oh, well. C'est la vie.
But the point is I made, I'm in another country, across an entire ocean, and my classes don't start until the 23rd. That's a whole two weeks in another country with no plans!! How brilliant is that?!
Cheers! Nikki
